Vinesh Phagot, former international wrestler of India and current member of the Haryana legislative assembly was born in 1994 in Charkhi Dadri district of the Haryana state. In his wrestling career, she was awarded medals in various international wrestling competitions including the Olympic, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games. She joined politics as a member of the Indian National Congress party just before the state assembly elections in 2024. Vinesh Phogot was known as the first women wrestler who opened up against the president of the Wrestling Federation Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh alleging him of sexual harassment in 2023.
She was a member of the Indian Olympic team 2024 as the star wrestler. But Vinesh was disqualified after winning the silver medal in a contest for her overweight. She was supported by the opposition parties especially by the Congress party while she was protesting against the wrestling federation chief. Her contact with the Congress Party and defeat in the Paris Olympics resulted in her retirement as a wrestler. Congress party introduced her as the candidate of the Julana constituency of the state assembly in the 2024 elections.
