Varsha Gaikwad, Indian politician and second daughter of former minister of Maharashtra state Eknath Gaikwad was born in 1975. Her father was an active politician of the Indian National Congress party and represented Asia’s biggest slum area Dharavi Mumbai city. Her early schooling and higher education were done in Mumbai. She completed her Master of Science in Mathematics and joined Bachelor of Education. After her degree, Varsha joined Siddhartha College of Art, Science, and Commerce as a lecturer and was later promoted to professor.
She was first introduced to politics by her father in the instate assembly election of Maharashtra state in 2004 from the Dharavi constituency. Varsha Gaikwad continuously won the state assembly seat of Dharavi till the 2020 state election. During her tenure as a member of the legislative assembly of Maharashtra state, she served as the minister in various state ministries of the state government. She was introduced as the candidate of the Dharavi constituency in the general election of 2024 by the Indian National Congress Party against Bhartiya Janta Party candidate Ujjwal Nikam.

Varsha Eknath became the third Buddhist Parliamentarian after winning the Lok Sabha election in 2024. She served as the minister of women and child development of the Maharashtra state government in her second term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Varsha was married to Raju Babu in 2008 while she was serving as the MLA. She lives in Mumbai with her husband and has an office at Dharavi as a representative of the constituency. Varsha Gaikwad now shifted to New Delhi as a Member of Parliament (MP) after winning the Lok Sabha election in 2024.
