Tariq Anwar, a Senior congress leader from Bihar state of India and current member of the parliament from Katihar Lok Sabha Constituency was born in the family of Shah Mushtaque Ahmad & Bilquis Jahan in Patna City of the Bihar state. He completed his schooling in Patna and moved to Magadh University Bodh Gaya. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Science and started social work with his father. His father was active in the politics. Tariq Anwar kept the legacy of his father and grandfather and joined the Youth Congress party as a member at an early age.
He was appointed as the president of the Bihar Youth Congress party of Bihar from 1982 to 1984. He kept working on the ground level for the congress party in Bihar state and was once again appointed the president of Bihar congress committee 1988- 1989. in the year 1999 while Congress’s high command decided to introduce Sonia Gandhi as the candidate for the Prime Minister. He with Sharad Pawar and PA Sangma strongly opposed the decision and all were expelled from the party. All the leaders founded the Nationalist Congress party.

Tariq Anwar first contested from the Katihar constituency in 1988 and joined the parliament of India. He retained the seat till 1988. Tariq also served as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra State from 2002 to 2014. He left the Nationalist Congress Party in 2014 after political deference with Sharad Pawar. Although NCP separated from the congress party they contested in the general election under the alliance of United Progressive Alliance. Shri Tariq Anwar also served as the minister of state in the Manmohan Sigh-led UPA government from 2012 to 2014 for the Agriculture and Food Processing industries. Currently, he lives in Katihar city with his family, wife Hena Tariq five children.
