Surinder Kumar Choudhry, Politician of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory serving as the first Deputy Chief Minister of the Union Territory. He was elected as the MLA from The Nawsera State assembly constituency in the first election in 2024. Surinder Kumar contested in the assembly election as a member of the representative of Omar Abdullah le Jammu & Kashmir National Conference party. He defeated the former MLA of Bhartiya Janta Party Ravinder Raina in the state assembly election 2024.

He started politics after releasing from his government job at Sher-E-Kashmir University in 2009. Surinder Kumar lost his first election. Then he joined Mehbooba Mufti Led the J&K PDP party and contested in the assembly election in 2014. Later, Surinder joined the BJP in 2019 and left the party in 2023.

Surinder Kumar was born into the family of Jia Lal Choudhary in Nowshera tehsil of the Rajouri District. He finished his education and started working In the university in Nowshera. His ambition led him to join politics after his government job. He first contested in the 2009 assembly elections but lost the contest. He campaigned in the election with his full strength in the 2024 assembly elections. Surinder gave tough competition to his counterpart candidate of BJP Ravinder Raina. Raina defeated him by the margin of 10000 votes in the election.
