Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Diplomat, Author, Historian, politician, and current member of the Indian parliament was born in 1956 in London to the family of Tharoor Chandra Sekharan Nair and Sulekha Menon. His family belongs to Kerala state. Shashi Tharoor finished schooling in Mumbai and moved to St. Stephen’s College New Delhi. He graduated in History moved to the US and completed his doctorate in International Relations at 22 from Tufts University. He joined the United Nations in 1978 as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
In his diplomatic career with the United Nations, he served in various posts. He last contested for UN Secretary-General in 2006 when he was serving as the UN Secretary-General. In his campaign, he lost the election to Ban Ki-Moon and resigned from the United Nations in 2007. Shashi Tharoor moved to Indian politics as a Member of the Indian National Congress. He contested Lok Sabha General Election 2009 from Thiruvananthapuram constituency and repeatedly won the election in 2014, 2019, and 2024.
