Shri Mallikarjun Kharge is a prominent Indian lawyer and Politician from Karnataka and he has been serving as a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha since 2020. Kharge was elected to Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament in June 2020 by representing the Karnataka Constituency. He is also serving as the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha since 2021.
He was born into a Dalit family to Saibavva and Mapanna Kharge in Varawatti, Bhalki Taluk, Bidar district, Karnataka on 21 July 1942. Mallikarjun Kharge lost his mother and sister in a fire set off by the Razakars of the Nizam of Hyderabad at the age of 7, while he had a narrow escape, in 1948. He completed a B.A. and LL.B. degree from Government Arts and Science College, Gulbarga (Kalaburgi) and S.S.L. Law College, Gulbarga (Kalaburgi) Karnataka University. His father name is Shri Mapanna Kharge.

After well served in Karnataka State politics, Mallikarjun Kharge entered National politics, by contesting the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Gulbarga Constituency.
