Shri Joyanta Basumatary, a Young politician of the United Peoples Party of Assam state is serving his first term as a member of parliament. He was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha of the Parliament in the general election of 2024. Joyanta Basumatary was contested under NDA Alliance from the Kokrajhar constituency of Assam state. Kokrajhar constituency was reserved for the Scheduled Tribe candidate in the general election of 2023.

He was born in the Mainaguri town of Assam in the family of Tarun Ch Basumatary and Romani Basumatary. His father was an agriculturist and his mother was house maker. Joyanta Basumatary completed his schooling in his hometown and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bongaigaon College, Assam. After his graduation, he joined farming and social service in his hometown. Shri Joyanta Basumatary joined the United Peoples Party (Libral) while he was active as a social worker.

His activeness was noticed by the high command of the party and he was promoted in the party in his district. Joyanta Basumatary was fielded as the candidate of the Lok Sabha elections from the Kokrajhar constituency. He lives in New Delhi now as his official residence as a Member of the parliament.
