A young Politician of Kashmir, Iltija Mufti was born in 1987 in the family of renowned politicians and former chief ministers of the J&K state Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar. Srinagar is the capital of Jammu and Kashmir and her mother and her political understanding started due to Iltija’s family background. She was brought up in the family of Mehbooba Mufti and finished her schooling in Srinagar town. After schooling her mother and father sent Iltija to complete her higher education at DU. She enrolled in Sri Venkateshwara College of Delhi University.

Later after graduation, she moved abroad to finish her master’s degree. Iltija Mufti came back and started helping her mother in her daily political activities. Her official political career came to life after her mother introduced her as the Media advisor of the Peoples Democratic Party. In between she regularly started her presence in political rallies and meeting with her mother. In 2019 central government abolished the special state status of the Jammu and Kashmir State and her mother was house arrested by the government.

She was introduced first time in the state assembly election by her mother as the candidate of PDP from the Bijbehara constituency of the state assembly of Jammu & Kashmir in 2024. Iltija Mufti started appearing in the rallies and was loved by the people of the state as a young leader. Iltija is currently serving as the Media advisor of the party after she was defeated by Bashir Ahmad Shah from the National Conference party (NC) by more than 9000 votes. She accepted the verdict of the polls and stated that she would continue fighting for the people of the constituency and state for the betterment of statehood.

Iltija Mufti was handling the Peoples Democratic Party’s Social Media and other policies while her mother was under house arrest. She came out and filed a petition against the arrest of her mother in the Supreme Court of India. Iltija was very confident about her future in politics of the state as she had seen on the different news channels and political rallies in the election campaign and after the result of the election. But she lost to National Conference Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri) in the Srigufwara-Bijbehara constituency by over 9,000 votes.
