Farooq Abdulla/ Farrokh senior Leader and son of the family of the dynasty of the first elected chief minister and statesman Sheikh Abdullah was born in Srinagar in 1937. He is currently heading one of the oldest regional political parties of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference as the president. He was brought up in Srinagar by his mother Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah and his father. After finishing his schooling Farooq enrolled in Sawai Man Singh Medical College and obtained the MBBS degree. He moved up to the UK for Medical practice at a young age. He met Molly a British-origin nurse in London. They married and returned to India, Farooq has three daughters and a Son Umar Abdullah with her.
He was awarded as the chief minister of the Jammu and Kashmir State after the death of his father in 1982. He faced some disputes in his party with his brother-in-law Ghulam Mohammad Shah. Shah separated from her supporting MLA in 1984 and became the chief minister of the state dismissing Farooq with the support of the Congress party. Later, he becomes Minister of New and Renewable Energy Govt of India.

He did not contest in the recent assembly election but campaigned thoroughly for the party in the elections. He was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir while terrorism was raised in the valley with trained militants and the migration of the Kashmiri pandits happened. Farooq Abdulla is still active in politics and operates from the head office of the JK National Conference office in Srinagar. Kashmiri Muslims with the help of outsiders rap*d and Killed lakhs of the Kashmiri Pandits and forced them to leave the state between 1987 and 1990.
