E. T. Mohammed Basheer, a veteran politician of the Indian Union Muslim League and current member of the Parliament of India is representing the Malappuram constituency of Lok Sabha. He was first contested in state assembly bi-elections in 1985 and won the seat of the assembly. He joined again state assembly again in 1991 and remained unbeaten until 2006. In 2009 he was introduced as the candidate of the party in the general election of India from Ponnani Lok Sabha Constituency of the Kerala State.

Mohammed Basheer was born in the ordinary family of E. T. Moosakutty and Fathima in the small village of Malappuram. He completed his High School at a government school. Mohd Basheer was active in politics from a young age. In his political career, he was never convicted in any criminal case.
