Shri Bhubaneswar Kalita, a senior politician of Assam State is serving his fifth term as a member of the Upper House of the Parliament of India. He contested in the Rajya Sabha poll 2020 as the candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bhubaneswar Kalita is known as a Gandhian politician as he was a member of the Indian National Congress party till 2019. But he resigned from the Member of Rajya Sabha and the primary membership of the Congress party in 2019.

He was born in Rangiora town of Kamrup District of Assam in the family of Shri Krishna Kanta Kalita and Smt. Giribala Kalita in 1951. Shri Bhubaneswar Kalita started politics as a member of the Indian National Congress Party just after completing his education( LLB) from Guwahati University. Bhubaneswar Kalita contested only once ina direct electoral contest in his long political career in 2001. He became a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly in 2001.
