Aparajita Sarangi, a Retired IAS officer and former joint secretary of the Government of India is currently serving as a member of the Parliament from the Bhubaneshwar constituency of the Odisha state. She joined politics after resigning from her IAS job in 2018 and joined Bhartiya Janta Party. Aparajita first contested in the Lok Sabha Election from Bhubaneswar in 2019 and defeated the BJD candidate Anup Patnaik.
She was born in an ordinary family of Shri Ajit Mishra and Smt Kusum Mishra in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar state. Aparajita Sarangi finished her graduation degree in English from SM College of Bhagalpur University. She cracked the UPSC exam and joined the Indian Administrative Service in Odisha Cadre. Smt. Aparajita spends most of her time in Odisha on various posts.

Aparajita interest was in politics and her husband, an IAS officer himself backed her. Finally, she decided to quit her job as Joint Secretary and join politics. She decided to join the Bhartiya Janta party and the party offered her the ticket as the candidate from the Bhubaneswar constituency. Aparajita Sarangi lost her first election contest in 2019 but the BJP high command kept faith in her and once again she contested in the 2024 general elections. She won the election and joined the Parliament of India serving her second term.
