Anto Antony Punnathaniyil, an Indian politician from the Kerala state and current member of the Lok Sabha of the parliament of India was born in the agriculturist family of Kuruvilla Antony and Chinnamma Antony in Dist. Kottayam, Kerala in 1957. He finished his schooling in his native village and moved to Thiruvananthapuram for higher education. Anto Antony obtained a Law degree from Kerala University. He was interested in politics from a young age. Anto was an active member of the Student Union of Kerala at his university. He was appointed as the general secretary of the student union at a young age which showed leadership and political skills of Anto an early age.

He became the primary member of the Indian National Congress Party and started joining the political events of the senior leaders of Kerala state, Soon he became a known politician in his local constituency. Anto Antony first time got the chance to contest in the direct election as the candidate of the Indian National Congress Party from Kottayam Lok Sabha Constituency of the Kerala State in 2004. He lost to the CPI counterpart K. Suresh Kurup by more than 50 thousand votes securing 2 lakh 98 thousand votes in the election. After the defeat, he worked hard in the local area and gathered the support of local voters by addressing and solving the problems of the voters.

Anto did not forgive and once again congress party kept faith in him. In the general election of 2009 Congress Party high command introduced him against the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate from the Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency. Pathanamthitta constituency came into existence through apportionment done by the center and state government. He won the constituency with a huge margin of votes. Currently, Anto Antony lives in Pathanamthitta with his wife Grace Anto, and has 2 children in the family. Anto has still stated himself as an agriculturist and can be seen farming on his farmland.
