Ajay Tamta, Member of Parliament and Minister of State in the Ministry of Road and Transport and Highways was born in a simple family in a village in the Almora District of Uttarakhand. He completed his schooling at a government school. He started his transport business and political career from the Village panchayat election. Shri Ajay Tamta gained popularity as a politician in the separate state movement of Uttarakhand. He was continuously contesting local body elections and became the vice president of Zila Panchayat.
In the first contested 2002 assembly election of the state Uttarakhand as an independent candidate but lost the election. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and again contested in the assembly election in 2007 and entered to Dehradun Assembly of the state. Ajay Tamta defeated Pradeep Tamta of the Indian National Congress in the election. Ajay Tamta Served as the minister in the state assembly of the Uttarakhand state. He never lost till now any election from the Almora District.
