Shri Govind Makthappa Karjol is an Indian Politician from Karnataka. He is a Member of the Parliament, Lok Sabha from Chitradurga constituency. Govind Karjol defeated the INC Candidate, B. N. Chandrappa with a majority of 48,121 votes.  He is of popular and active politician and candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Govind was born in Karajola Village in Vijayapura district.in Karnataka to Makthappa Karjol and Parvati Devi in 1951. He has a degree in SSLC and Material Management (Job Oriented Course) from SS High School Bijapur Karnataka. Govind Makthappa started his political career by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the former Minister of Major and Medium Irrigation, Water Resources of Karnataka from 4 August 2021 till 15 May 2023.

He has five-time served as a Member of Legislative Assembly in Karnataka from 1994 to 1999 and 2004 to 2023. Govind Karjol also held key positions in the Government of Karnataka such as Minister of Food & Civil Supplies from 2006 to 2007, Minister of Planning & Statistics from 2008 to 2010, and Minister of Kannada & Culture from 2011 to 2013. He was also Deputy CM of Karnataka from 2019 to 2021.
