Afzal Ansari, a Bahubali politician of Uttar Pradesh and current member of Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the parliament was born in the Mohammadabad Yusufpur village of Ghazipur district of Utter Pradesh in 1953. He was brought up by his father Subhanullah Ansari and his Mother Rabiya Begum with his siblings in his village. Afzal Ansari completed his primary schooling in a government primary school nearby to his village. After completing his matriculation and intermediate study at a government school he enrolled at Government University Ghazipur. He was inclined into politics from a young age.

His father and grandfather were in active politics in their time. He kept the legacy of the family and joined the politics. His family is full of politicians. Former vice President of India Shri Hamid Ansari is his second cousin. His Brother Mukhtar Ansari is one of the strongman politicians of Uttar Pradesh. He is under trial for multiple criminal cases under the gangster act. Afzal Ansari himself was convicted under one case and many cases are still pending against him. He joined the Communist Party of India in his early days of politics and contested as the candidate of CPI from the Muhammadabad constituency of the state assembly in 1985 resulting in his first win as MLA.

Afzal represented the Muhammadabad constituency for the next 17 years and was elected as the MLA in five consecutive assembly elections. In 1996 he left the communist party and joined the Mulayam Singh-led Samajwadi Party. After his last election in the state assembly Afzal set to prepare for central politics and the Samajwadi party gave him a chance as the candidate of the Samajwadi party from the Ghazipur Lok Sabha constituency. He lost his next contest from the Ghazipur in 2009 to BJP candidate Radhe Mohan Singh. He contested in the General election of 2019 as the candidate of the Bahujan Samaj Party and entered into the parliament. Currently, he is serving as a member of the parliament from the Ghazipur constituency.

In 2023 he was jailed under a 4-year sentence by the UP court and was disqualified from membership of the parliament. Sansad Afzal Ansari was released by the order of the Supreme Court and his suspension was revoked. He married Farhat Ansari and has three daughters in his family. In recent years both have faced strong trials in various courts for their gangster activity, murder, Kidnapping, and many other cases.
