Uddhav Thackrey, president of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bala Saheb Thackrey) and member of the Legislative Council of the Maharashtra State became the chief minister of the Maharashtra state after breaking the alliance with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in 2019. HE Broke the alliance after he was not appointed as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra after state assembly election 2023. BJP- Shiv Sena Alliance won the assembly election in 2019 and after winning ambitious Uddhav started dreaming of the post of the Chief Minister of the state but the BJP-led alliance appointed Devendra Fadnavis as the Chief Minister.

He was offered the post of deputy chief minister but he refused the offer and withdrew the support to the Devendra-led BJP government of the state. Uddhav Thackrey collaborated with opposition parties Indian National Congress Party and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) resulting in a new alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi. MVA alliance met the governor of the state under the leadership of Uddhav Thackrey. He was sworn in as the chief minister of the state in 2019. Although Uddhav Thackrey never contested in any direct election of the state, he entered into the assembly of the Maharashtra state through an indirect election as a member of the legislative council (MLC).

In 2022 Eknath Shinde led MLA of Shiv Sena opened the revolt against Uddhav Thackrey because of allying with the Indian National Congress Party and others. Lots of the supporters of the Shiv Sena also disliked the decision of Uddhav Thackrey to ally with the congress party, which always opposed the founder of Shiv Sena and its policies. Uddhav Thackrey led government faced trouble and at last Governor of the Maharashtra accepted the resignation of Uddhav Thackrey. Uddhav Thackrey led the alliance contested in the general election 2024 in Maharashtra and gained a large number of seats in the state defeating BJP candidates. Currently, he lives in Mumbai city with his family. His son Aditya Thackrey also contested in the Maharashtra assembly election 2019 and joined the state assembly.
