Sumitra Balmik, Politician and member of parliament Rajya Sabha was born in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh on 10 July 1955. She finished her early schooling at the nearest school of her village Shahpura, Jabalpur. She moved to Jabalpur City for her higher education and obtained a BA. Social work was her hobby from her college days. Smt. Sumitra Balmik keeps teaching tailoring to the women of his village. Her social work gave her an identity in the local area.
She belongs to a Dalit cast family, but her social work gave her a new identity. Sumitra Balmik connected to local BJP leaders during her work on women’s welfare and empowerment. After becoming a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1993, she started her career in the state-level politics of Madhya Pradesh. She was nominated first time as the candidate of BJP for a Councillor in the Jabalpur Local body election in 1999. Sumitra Balmik was promoted as the president of Jabalpur city Mahila Morcha.
