Bibhu Prasad Tarai, a Politician from the Odisha state is currently serving his second term as the member of the parliament of 18th Lok Sabha of the parliament. He was contested as the candidate of the Bhartiya Janta Party from the Jagatsinghpur constituency of the state. His political career started as a member of the Communist Party of India in the late 90s. Bibhu was first contested from the Jagatsinghpur coastal constituency of the Odisha state as the candidate of CPI in 2009 and secured a landmark win against the BJP BJD alliance in the state.
He was born in the family of Dinabandhu Tarai and Saraswati Tarai in Jagatsinghpur town Odisha in 1964. Bibhu Prasad belongs to the scheduled cast community of the state. As the Jagatsinghpur constituency was declared reserved for the Schedule cast he once again contested in the general election of 2019 but lost the election to Rajashree Mallick of BJD.

Bibhu Prasad changed the party after his first tenure as a member of the parliament in 2014 and contested as the candidate of Biju Janta Dal from the same constituency. He was defeated by a huge margin in the election. Bibhu Prasad left the BJD and joined the Indian National Congress Party. Finally, he landed in the saffron color and joined the Bhartiya Janta Party in 2019. He lost his first election as the candidate of BJP but won the next election contest defeating incumbent MP Rajashree Mallick.
