Shri Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia, an Indian politician of the All India Trinamool Congress party is serving his first term as a member of the Lower House of the Parliament of India. He contested in the general election of 2024 from the reserve seat of the Coochbehar constituency of West Bengal. Basunia was fielded by AITMC and INDIA as the candidate against BJP and NDA contestant Nisith Pramanik. Jagadish Chandra defeated his opponent by around 40 thousand votes.

He was born in the family of the Late Kalipada Barma Basunia and Nanibala Barma Basunia in 1964. Jagadish Chandra Barma Basunia belongs to the scheduled cast community of the WB state. He completed his schooling in the government school of his village and joined Amravati University for higher education. Jagadish Chandra Basunia earned a BA and B. P. Ed. He started his career as a physical training instructor in a government college. Later, Jagadish joined politics after retiring from a government job.
